Pride 2017: Madrid

With the upcoming pride celebrations at the world’s gay capital, Madrid, we take a look at last years highlights in photos. Every year Pride extends across the city and out of the gay district, Chueca, for a week of partying, love and tolerance. For those visiting Madrid from June 23rd to July 2nd 2017 here’s a snippet of what awaits you.

On July 1st the worlds largest LGBT Pride Parade will begin. The parade begins at Atocha Station, travelling through Paseo del Prado and ends in Plaza de Colón. In total, over 40 floats will be participating this year, representing various political parties, organisations and groups. Finally, the parade will arrive at it’s destination to the sound of music and the reading of the manifesto of freedom, inclusion and diversity.

For those who are new to the city you’ll soon understand that Madrid has something for everyone. Whether you’re into bears, twinks, leather or lace there is literally a subculture scene on every street. There are bars and clubs such as Bearbie dedicated to the hairy scene. Pride 2017 feature all of the usual suspects, including drag queens as part of the Muestra T In Off event.

Perhaps the most important thing to know about Madrid is that the Spanish love a party. Don’t expect to be going home at 3pm in the morning. The people of Madrid, or Madrileños, will be going until 7am the next day. Expect a night of naughtiness, decadence and romance – just remember to get stuck in and be hands on!
